How to resize to 1080 x 1080 on Windows, Mac and iPhone

The built-in apps do one photo at a time. Watch the shape: if the photo is not square, typing 1080 twice stretches it.

Windows (Paint)

  1. Open the photo in Paint and choose Resize.
  2. Pick Pixels and untick Maintain aspect ratio.
  3. Type 1080 for both sides and click OK, then save a copy.

Paint stretches a photo that isn't square. Crop it to a square first, or use Pad on this page to add bars instead.

Mac (Preview)

  1. Open the photo in Preview and choose Tools, then Adjust Size.
  2. Set the units to pixels and untick Scale proportionally.
  3. Type 1080 for width and height and click OK.

Preview overwrites the original when you save. Duplicate the file first, or use this page, which never touches your files.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open this page in Safari and tap the drop area.
  2. Choose Photo Library and pick your photos.
  3. Tap Resize, then download the ZIP to the Files app.

The Photos app can crop to Square but can't set a pixel size, so a crop there won't come out at exactly 1080 x 1080.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a photo to 1080 x 1080?+

Drop the photo here. It opens on Exact size, 1080 x 1080, with Fit on Crop, which fills the square from the centre. Switch to Pad to keep the whole photo with a border in the colour you pick, then resize and download.

Is 1080 x 1080 the Instagram post size?+

1080 x 1080 is the square feed post size our Social Media Resizer uses for Instagram, and for square Facebook and X posts. For portrait posts it uses 1080 x 1350, and 1080 x 1920 for Stories and Reels.

How do I post a photo to Instagram without cropping it?+

Choose Pad. The whole photo is fitted inside the 1080 x 1080 square and the empty space is filled with white, black or any colour you choose.

Can I resize a whole carousel at once?+

Yes. Drop every slide in, and they all come out at the same 1080 x 1080 size with the same fit, ready to post in order.

Does resizing lower the quality?+

Shrinking a large photo to 1080 px keeps it sharp. Enlarging a smaller photo can't add detail, so start from the original rather than a screenshot.

Are my photos uploaded?+

No. The resizing runs in your browser and the photos never leave your device.
