HEIF is the image format. HEIC is the name Apple uses for HEIF photos compressed with HEVC, and both open here. JPEG (JPG) is the older format that every phone, computer and website accepts, which is why converting helps.
Your browser can't read a few photos, such as very large panoramas or unusual HEIF types. Those are marked, and you can convert them on our servers with a free account for 1 credit each.
Keep the default of 90: it looks the same as the original. Go down to 70 or 80 for smaller files to email or upload. iPhone photos have no transparency, so nothing else is lost.
