Quick answer

BatchSet's TIFF to PNG converter turns .tif and .tiff images into lossless PNG for free in your browser — nothing is uploaded. PNG keeps every pixel and any transparency, which makes it the right target for scanned documents, line art and anything you will edit again. It reads LZW, Deflate, PackBits and JPEG-compressed TIFFs; a multi-page TIFF converts its largest page, and 16-bit becomes 8-bit.

How to use the TIFF to PNG

Three quick steps — free, private, right in your browser.

1

Add your TIFF

Drag in .tif or .tiff files, or click to browse. Nothing is uploaded.

2

Convert to PNG

PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting to get wrong.

3

Download the PNG

Transparency is kept, ready for editing or design tools.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert TIFF to PNG rather than JPG?+

PNG is lossless, so nothing is thrown away, and it keeps transparency. Pick PNG for line art, scanned documents, screenshots and anything you will edit again; pick JPG for photos you want much smaller.

Is my TIFF uploaded?+

No. The TIFF is decoded in your browser with UTIF and written out by your browser's own canvas, so the file never leaves your computer.

Will the PNG be bigger than the TIFF?+

Sometimes. An uncompressed TIFF usually gets smaller, but an LZW-compressed scan can come out slightly larger as a PNG. PNG keeps every pixel either way.

Which TIFF variants does it read?+

Uncompressed, LZW, Deflate, PackBits and JPEG-compressed TIFFs, in 8-bit or 16-bit, RGB, greyscale, palette or CMYK. Anything it cannot read is reported on the file itself, and the bulk converter can run it on our servers for 1 credit.

What happens to a multi-page TIFF?+

You get one PNG: the largest page in the file. Thumbnail pages some scanners embed are skipped for the same reason.

Does a 16-bit TIFF stay 16-bit?+

No. The decoder hands over 8 bits per channel, so a 16-bit TIFF becomes an 8-bit PNG. Keep the original if the extra range matters.
